Iyengar Yoga was created by B.K.S. Iyengar in the course of the 50s. B.K.S. Iyengar was born in 1918 into a poor family in Bellur, India.
During his childhood, he will face many diseases. It conducts training with his master Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya in the purest tradition of Hatha Yoga. After a brilliant student, he decided to develop its own method to allow as many people can enjoy the benefits of yoga. This method based on yogic asanas and breathing will be fast followers. In 1975 the internationally respected yoga teacher decided to set up in Pune, south of India's school, Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (JIMI). This school is now considered by many followers of yoga as a must as the method taught is powerful. Today B.K.S. Iyengar is considered a living legend. His books including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama ... are classics.
A rigorous method
Iyengar Yoga is characterized by extensive practice of classical yoga postures, asanas and yogic breathing (pranayama). The education provided by B.K.S. Iyengar is precise and rigorous. The greatest attention is paid to the alignment of various body parts in space. This requirement is sometimes acrobatic aided by the use of supports (straps, blocks, blankets, chairs, ropes ...). Learning is progressive so that all can start without it hurting. According B.K.S. Iyengar, asanas performed in a thorough and meticulous allow everyone to develop both strength and flexibility.
